After School Hoops

In the alley of Del Mar Avenue stands a basketball hoop that awaits the arrival of its 3:15 friends. Normally at 2:55 Jack and his friends leave school in a hurry for their daily game of Horse. Today is different though. It’s 3:16 and none of them have come. The hoop is beginning to get concerned. No oranges have been picked from the tree and no laughter is anywhere to be heard. 3:20 now and here comes Jack running full speed down the alley ripping his backpack off and throwing it against the trash cans. Before his backpack hit the ground he already began peeling the ripest juiciest orange hanging from the tree. The hoop then learns that Jack and his friends got held back by their teacher for trying to play basketball during class time. This gives the hoop a distinct feeling of pride. Thankful for the mutual appreciation and friendship it has with the kids.
